Share
Another triumph for the Palma Aquarium Foundation in Mallorca. After hatching at Cala Pere Antoni beach in Summer 2025 and successfully completing the head-starting conservation program with Palma Aquarium, these amazing Loggerhead Sea Turtles (Caretta caretta) have been released to continue their journey in the Mediterranean.
Each one represents the joint efforts of professionals, organizations, and the public to protect a vulnerable species and preserve the biodiversity of the Balearic Islands.
Sea turtle nesting is becoming more and more common on the Balearic islands, and everyone's involvement is key to protecting this vulnerable species and preserving the biodiversity of the Mediterranean.
If you come across a nesting female, a track in the sand, a nest, or hatchlings on any of the islands' beaches, please report it straight away by calling 112. Quick reporting gives rangers and marine biologists the best chance to protect the nest and safely guide any hatchlings to the water, helping this fragile recovery continue for years to come.
